I find it so cool that I am raising a lefty. Early on, we noticed his left hand always reached for everything. It evolved to his ability to hold, throw, and eat exclusively with his left hand. I didn't know how to deal when I first learned it, that I tried to train him to use his right hand instead. I stopped the moment I saw his left hand twitch when I held his arm so he would use the other one to reach for his toy. I asked myself the reason for my need to make him a right-handed human and I was stumped. I had no answer other than "because I am". The moment I uttered it aloud, I let go of his left arm and let him go crazy with it. I looked at my 4-month old baby and just got really excited that I was raising this individual with an evident uniqueness about him.

The only thing I knew about left-handed folks was that they were generally creative individuals. Every single lefty I know are creative. That's about 3 out of hundreds. That is where I got my statistic. Yes, it is a little bias. I have many years to explore this unknown territory and I can't wait to share it with all of you.

I did find an online store that cater exclusively to these special individuals. http://www.leftyslefthanded.com/ I guess his gifts when he becomes school age will be gadgets that will make his life easier.

Also, if you ever find yourself in Seaport Village in San Diego, California, there is a neat little place called the Left Hand Store tucked away in there.

Are there any leftie mom bloggers out there that can share tips and give advice raising this boy?Petiteandthemotherhood.blogspothttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12333748092197648776noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9170005869023879173.post-16922889466943871912016-02-02T02:24:00.001-05:002016-02-02T02:54:51.674-05:00Her DollhouseI've searched high and low for ideas for an affordable dollhouse for my daughter. I kept convincing myself that building one did not look hard. After all, it is my lifelong dream to be an Architect. I also had someone willing to let me use his workshop, as long as I brought him a 6-pack. I sat in the playroom drafting plans when I realized that the Ikea Besta TV Stand my friend gave me years ago can fit an 18" doll. I did a quick search on Craigslist if someone was selling another one. With a sprinkle of glitter and wave of a magic wand, someone was selling the same exact version! The European version with some odd shape shelving in the middle, to be exact. I stacked them both together and took the shelves off and boom, a two-story dollhouse for her 18" dolls. Soon, we will put wallpaper, faux tiles, and other fancy things. For now, I present to you my daughter's little corner.

This is how I originally designed one of the 2nd floor cubes. It's the "Our Generation: It Seams Perfect" play set. It is so darn cute. I was at Target days after Christmas and saw this in the go-back cart they had in the midst of holiday clearance madness. It looks like Amazon has it for sale since it looks like Target no longer carries it. The shelving is actually the packaging from the Our Generation Kitchen play set. They fit most Shopkins perfectly.
Ikea here in the US also sells Besta. I originally wanted it to be vertical instead of horizontal, but my mover - aka husband-who-has-muscles refused to do it that way. Flipping the Besta on its side has a longer height, making room for lights you can stick on. It gets very dark in these cubes. She uses a desk lamp that she shines on the house when she is playing.

It's pretty fun to watch her decorate this and have fun with it. I never thought I would be a doll-mom. The AG dolls are just so adorable. Sometimes I even volunteer to brush their hair and I sit there like a crazy lady humming while I do it. Balalalala. We are big fans of Disney animation in this house. I don't cry often, but when I do, it's normally because I am watching a made believe character who just experienced a tragic event and overcame it. Even with reruns, I become this big old mess. I am worst with Toy Story 3.

Every year, after my kids' combined party, I make a note and say I will never have a house party again. The prep, mess, and chaos are not even the reasons. My AC unit always breaks down the day of the party. Imagine 60+ people to include both kids and adults. All cooped up in my living room in the 90-degree Georgia humid summer weather. Every year since we've gotten this house, it's been the same story. Then, I get in this mode of choosing a character that Party City doesn't carry decor for weeks prior, and I run with it. I come up with unique designs and games. I become committed and I never look back. Same story every time. Darn AC unit fails every time.

The outcome is a bit of magic. Everything falls into place and my kids have a blast. The guests' bellies fill up and the kids go home with sugar rush.

Food: We served buffet style of pizza, hotdogs, and Filipino cuisine.
Games: Pin Baymax's eyes, Pingpong with Baymax's eyes Spoon Race, Build your own Baymax using marshmallows and toothpicks.
Next year, I might do Finding Nemo theme since my favorite movie's sequel is finally coming out! I am more than excited. I have waited more than a decade for it.Petiteandthemotherhood.blogspothttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12333748092197648776noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9170005869023879173.post-58974564117494311832016-01-28T02:19:00.001-05:002016-01-28T19:45:14.081-05:00VanityWarning: This post has a lot of quotation marks.

I try very hard to not let my husband know I have somewhere to go until I am on my way out the door. If he knows in advance, he always asks one of the kids to go with me. I put off running errands until the weekend to be efficient. It takes four times as long if I have one of them with me. Okay, fine, I admit it. It's really because I like listening to West Coast rap in high volume on my way to anywhere.

Last weekend was expected. I accidentally asked him if he could check if we had onions for me as I was getting ready. "We only have one left. Are you going to the store to get some?" He knew! Of course he offered one of the kids to tag along and be my "helper". I chose the one that's potty trained. As we were walking out, he jokingly asked why I was dolled and dressed up. I answered sarcastically, "Well you know, I have to impress people I might meet while I look helpless reaching for peanut butter." He laughed.

Seriously though, I dress up so I am not mistaken for the babysitter. It sounds shallow at a glance until you are actually in my size 5 shoes. I am always mistaken for the babysitter. When I go by myself, I don't mind when they think I am just this 15 year old that can drive, and really needed pasture-raised eggs. With my kid attached to my hip, though, I just make it a point to always look like I am the parent. It makes me feel better about myself.

Plus, it's different with women. I had a friend who used to borrow my kid to walk around the stores with him. Females would approach him and admire my baby. I am sure the same goes for my husband. It's different for us women. It's definitely opposite for me. I have not had a man or woman approach me and admire my children. Unless they're beautiful grandparents. My kids' and their souls always connect. There really just isn't any "are you a single parent in need of someone to help you, I'll be that person for you" look that goes my way. Ever. I just get the "you are a great babysitter" look. So yes, I do dress up more when one of my babies have to tag along. I'll just leave my husband thinking it's for some other reason. Could it be the feeling of lush between their fingers? Or the ideas they play in their head of the things they will build? I love sand as much as these kids, but today was a mobile type of activity kind of day. I was picturing running around and going down the slide with them. It's sunny, but cold... and my youngest is once again having tummy issues. Of course, he isn't running around. He is playing with his cars on the sand, totally being immobile. I guess at least he's happy.
I didn't know how to cook until I had my second child. I've never attempted as a single woman. I tried, but horribly failed as a mom of one. I never really cared for it until I started eating cleaner (organic, non-processed, home cooked). After I erased fast food restaurants out of my diet, with the exception of Chikfila, I was at a lost as to what I would actually eat. So, I started cooking. The downside? My prep takes twice as long as everyone else and leave the kitchen a mess. So total cooking time is double what the recipe calls for. I also can not see what I am cooking when I am using a Stock Pot. And, I am so close to the frying pan because my arm can reach so far, that the oil pops all over my face! But the rewards? I hope it's long healthy life for me and mines. Although, my grandpa drank soda everyday and lived to 94... But one must try to eat clean, right?

So what recipe books do I actually use? I only use two actual books and two online sites.

The Philippine Cookbook by Reynaldo Alejando started me off with the basic things I would actually eat. I grew up eating everything in this book and it would be terrible to not be able to introduce them to my own children. My favorite recipe here is the Maruya, which is a banana fritter.

Deceptively Delicious by Jessica Seinfeld is awesome. I hated vegetables and picked around my food a lot growing up. I bought this to trick myself into eating more vegetables way before my first child came along. Funny, right? My favorite recipes here are the beef stew, meatballs, and Banana bread. They are so delicious.

I love the Panlasang Pinoy blog. I've started using his blog when my first one was a baby; just random Filipino dishes I wanted to learn to cook. Then a friend showed me that he also had vlogs on YouTube and my cooking game reached a higher level. His recipes are on point and the dishes taste authentic once you are done. I absolutely love his Siopao recipe (steamed bun).

And lastly, AllRecipes.com. I love the comment section on all the recipes on this site because many people comment on how they made it better, etc. At first it was kind of hard for someone like me who needs the recipe to be to the tee, but it helped me learn how to improvise. Initial dishes were not very good, I won't lie. Eventually, I got my groove in the kitchen that I finally want to taste them before I serve them. Was I really the only one that never taste the food while cooking? Anyways, they also have an app. I go by stars for their recipes. I find myself recooking their homemade Alfredo sauce and their Crockpot dishes.

By no means am I Chef quality in the kitchen. I can read and follow instructions well, though. I just wished my counter was at a level where I can actually see what I am cooking. I dread every visit to one. I always try to help my children in them. My eldest is almost as tall as me and I still insist she lets me take her. There are times she will see another child in there and tell me she is a big girl and can do it on her own. I say, okay, let me at least make sure it's clean for you. 80% of the time, the seat is wet/dirty or the person prior did not flush it. I overlap the cover so her skin never touches the seat. When she allows me, I do try to carry her up to the seat or at least hold her skirt up, so it isn't lying on the ground. When she wants to be independent, I back off, but remind her what she needs to do: don't swing your legs, don't let you skirt drop, and put your hand on your lap. Many people have commented to me that I am hindering her somehow because in school she would have to do it on her own without toilet seat covers (mostly). To that, I say, thank you for your opinion then I go about and help my child, anyways.

When I absolutely can't avoid it, these are the things I do:

1. In long travels or overseas flights, I would buy toilet seat covers in advance for my kids (specifically, the ones below). They fold flat and small. They cover the entire seat and then some. So when they swing their legs, their thighs won't touch the seat at all. I just fold it up and throw it in the trash.

2. I have an antibacterial spray for our hands in case the restroom is out of soap.

3. If we were on our own and I need to use the restroom, I tell my kids to stick a foot under the doorway so I can see them at all times. My daughter tends to sing. She said, so I know it is her foot and that she is still there.

4. With infants: I always buy a stroller that folds completely flat so I can just change him on there. If I need to use the changing table, I bring the Goodnights pad (for the bed). It completely covers the table.

Yesterday, my daughter and I were alone in the bathroom.
She insisted on doing it all by herself. I checked. She did her thing.
As we were washing our hands, I told her, "That's pretty cool you can do
all this by yourself now. I know mom always wants to help, but it's my
nature. I will always try to help you as many times as I can while I am
here with everything you do, not just in restrooms." She somehow understood that it wasn't because I thought she was a baby. She
replied, "I know mom" and gave me a hug.Petiteandthemotherhood.blogspothttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12333748092197648776noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9170005869023879173.post-36457875376691444962015-10-29T00:00:00.000-04:002016-01-28T02:34:23.861-05:00Friendly Encounters When I was pregnant with my first child, I read an article that outlined the different types of friends a mom should have. It listed building relationships with a variety of friends that range from being single or married, to young, same age, and older. I remember reading it and thought, easy enough. I need a single friend for when I want to party downtown. I need a stay-at-home mom for when my kids get sick, she'll be my backup babysitter. I need a working mom for aspiration or someone to relate to if I am working. I need a younger person to teach me of the new gadgets. I need an older person to teach me about life. Then, I had children. I thought, boy, was the article out of contact with reality or what? Or maybe, it was describing the ideal life of a mom. Either way, mines is an odd mixture of crazy people, but exactly what I need for this moment in my life.

For me and mine, I am content with the amount of social relationships I do have. I rarely go out with friends nor do I spend hours on end talking to or about them. I rarely talk about my friends, actually. Except for now, because I feel like I owe an ode to those who I can call or text late at night about random things that eventually end up being free counseling sessions for hours. I feel lucky to have people I can truly call my soul-humans.

Looking back, I have always kept my circle tight. I think there's a special type of people to not just get or accept me, but truly love me. As I got older, I realized that friendship does not take work at all. I noticed that relationships that I had to put a lot of effort on, were not the relationships I ended up keeping for long term.To me, relationships are like mirrors. I say friendship is effortless
because when I bend over backwards for a friend, it's not forced nor
rehearsed. It's an automatic reaction. When I sense a resentment or
jealousy coming from the person I am genuinely happy for, I can feel it
throughout my 4'11" body and I go on defense mode. I let the
relationship go and I move forward. I don't believe in dragging
relationships along for the ride if they don't want to be there.

I realized that some people come into your life only for a moment to slap you silly and show you different paths that are ahead. I've had the best and worst people come in and out of my life so quick, I feel like a revolving door. Some, I was excited to never see again, some, I shed tears for. I've had people who loosely used the word "friend", but talked behind my back for fun or pity. I have friends who will be frank with me out of love and not turn to the next person and replay the event. I've had people who stole my ideas and used it to compete with me unknowingly. I don't use the word "frienemy" because if you are in my life, it is either you are a friend or you are an acquaintance. I don't keep my enemies on my soul-train. So it's either you support me from the sideline as an acquaintance or you are on
this crazy ride with me holding the barf bag.

To say friends are not important is a lie. Friends are important. Whether or not they are young, old, single, or with children, my soul-humans are important to me. They come as innocent as the uninvited person to your party or as awkward as meeting them at a playgroup you didn't really want to take your child to. Some of the best humans I know actually came to my life this way. Many years ago, an older lady approached me while I was changing in the locker room after swimming with my family. She wanted to introduce me to her daughter. This daughter of hers remains as one of the best humans I have in my life now. So these friendly encounters should not be strictly followed according to quotas: oh I already have enough married friends or I need a stay-at-home friend who can babysit. Your soul will connect and attach itself to those who are meant to stay for the long haul, past the babysitting stage.
I know I am supposed to just strictly be researching for a Child Carrier at the moment, but look what Jamie Grayson aka TheBabyGuyNYC posted fresh off ABC Kids 15 expo. I am almost at the end of the stroller phase, but this is super exciting to me. I won't be salty and ask where it's been the past 8 years, but I will celebrate all of you who would be able to have this for their lil' ones. Cheers to their R&D. I wonder if the seat reclines all the way down. If you don't follow Jamie and Angry Baby in social media, I suggest you do. He is a hoot and is a baby gear guru. I have had days when the 3rd cup of coffee was not enough. I've had those moments where I would put my earphones on when my kids would argue about toys. So, when this day happened, I was in shock of how I didn't even yell at him.

My eldest came to me speechless. She took me by the hand and told me she couldn't find the words to explain it, but I had to come quick. I took one glance at him, let go of her, and walked the other way. I sat where I was sitting just seconds prior and just stared at the wall. I wasn't frustrated, or maybe I was too frustrated that it numbed itself out. Whatever it was, I was emotionless about it. She followed me back and asked if I was angry and all I could mutter back was that I quit. She looked at me so confused and asked, quit what? Again, I muttered in a monotone voice, I quit and reached out to hug her. Then we just started laughing like two crazy souls who understood each other. My son came running with a handful of Styrofoam pieces and asked what was funny? I took the pieces and pretended it was cold and the snow fight begun. We threw them up in the air and lay down and made Styrofoam angels. And once it was over, I looked at him and said, it was time to clean up. All, but four was left and he pretended they were a family of snow. He even put them to nap.

So, yes these days exist. Most days, I let my tired self get the best of me. But some days, we play snow in the field of Styrofoam singing Frozen songs.

Disclaimer: Do not use your Dyson to clean up these bad boys. Use a wet vac. Hide all the Styrofoam away from your mischievous children.
It was the first time in months that we took our beloved Hello Kitty along with us on a trip. We took her to our hike so we can snap her picture in front of the waterfalls. I have to admit that I miss taking her to our trips. When my daughter was just a baby, I had this crazy idea that this brown stuffed toy will travel everywhere with us so I started taking snapshots of her. She's become my daughter's companion through the busy subway stations of Rome, croissant-filled-air of Paris, and fireworks-lit-skies of Disney World. She even has her own album of adventures. And this is the first idea I will throw out there if you are wondering of a tradition you can do while on the go. Aside from taking family pictures and selfies while traveling, here are some tips to preserve your memories.

1. Take pictures of your kids lovey or toy at every place you visit. Hello Kitty is almost a ruler length, but super light. Think of luggage space when deciding which toy to take. If only my then-baby would not swallow a Lego, it would have been my choice of toy to photograph. You can also take pictures of your own baby up close. In my experience, this is a much harder option because babies tend to look horrified when bright lights flash at them and you will go to jail for holding your baby out onto the bridge with one arm.
2. Write a postcard to your child. When I started doing
this, I used to opt to have a collectible stamp affixed to it before
sending it off to my home. By the time we got home, the postcard would
be waiting in the mailbox with the post office stamp making it official.
I would write to them telling them of the places we visited and how it
was. I then put them in a shadow box type frame with the rest of them
near the front door. I imagine my kids reading through the experiences
they had growing up someday.

3. Journal/Agenda. If you already keep a planner, write a quick entry as to how your travels are going on each day. If you journal, write away. I also like to sketch different pictures.

4. Buy some cool Magnets. One side of our fridge faces an entrance, so it's where we stick all of our magnets. We move so much that I try to only buy the ones with non-breakable materials. If I only had the front facing door available, I would opt to buy a frame like my postcard shadow box to make it more uniformed.

5. Shot glasses and Mugs. We did this for ourselves. I have tons of mugs while the husband has tons of shot glasses. There is only one mug I really want to add to my collection and I told myself, I won't buy another one after it. It is the Starbucks Disneyland Anniversary mug. These are not just for decor, I like using them from time to time for the purposes they are for - coffee and shots :).

You probably wondered in the beginning why I titled this overload. These are literally the things I do every single time we go somewhere. It's a bit of a stretch, but I've gotten used to it that now it's become a habit - sans mugs. In addition to pictures to sort through, I reserve time and money for these, especially the postcards, every single time, because I want to pass them down to my children one day. What about you? How do you keep the memories of your travels?Petiteandthemotherhood.blogspothttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12333748092197648776noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9170005869023879173.post-62664214237166221862015-07-20T23:14:00.000-04:002015-10-22T12:00:54.035-04:00Favorite Vacay: Holiday Inn Resort Pensacola

For someone who is barely learning to swim in her 30's, I love vacationing in places where I can easily drown. Living in the south, Florida remains the easiest choice for this crazy activity. We found this gem of a spot because we are loyal Holiday Inn fans. Wherever we are in the world, we almost always stay in their franchise. It's within our budget and we like earning points. We've racked up so many points that we are able to stay in hotels like this for a fraction of the regular going price. This is the Holiday Inn Resort in Pensacola. We just love the Pensacola's white sand and turquoise water.

During the 4th of July weekend madness, one can book this for free. IHG's breakdown is so easy to calculate and does not change whether you are staying during the peak weekends or midweek. We are card members by choice after we've used up all of our points last year. We always opt to use the least amount of points and just pay the difference. While our stay, rooms were going for around $300.00, we paid $70 per night.

I have no clue what is in the area because this is one of those spots we like to vacation to just relax without any type of itinerary. The only things off our checklist are food, sunscreen, beach, drinks, pool, food, nap, and sleep. Throw in the jacuzzi somewhere in there to make it sound more exciting. This is one of those vacation places you take after a vacation somewhere fancy like Walt Disney World, where you walk endlessly.

As far as this awesome hotel? Well, it has a lazy river that we went around on more than 100 times. It boasts 3 jacuzzis. They also provide activities to kids such as the appearances of mermaids and pirates. This specific hotel also feeds every child free throughout the entire day. All of this without a resort fee. My frugal self couldn't contain myself. Using your points does not provide free breakfast, but if your kids eat free, then you really only pay for all the margarita's you choose to partake in poolside. Don't mind if I do. Cheers. Yes, I know. I no longer
have this stroller. However, it remains my favorite stroller to this day. This is the only stroller I recommend to my friends who aren't looking for a jogging stroller. If you
like to travel like my family does, this is hands down the best one to buy.

Just a quick overview of this gem in the order of my priorities:

The Liteway Plus came out towards the end of 2012 when I was getting ready to transition out of the Chicco Carseat Caddy.

In my opinion, it revolutionized this part of the industry. It transitions from carseat caddy, to stroller like some of the more expensive options. The cherry on top? It folds just like an umbrella stroller - one of its kind. I won't rewrite the description Chicco has on its site, but let me tell you why this stroller was a lifesaver for a shortie like myself.

The transition. Whenever I went somewhere with my kids, I switched back and forth between wearing my baby and my 5-year old being pushed. If the baby was sleeping on the way to the store, I let my older kid walk and just snap in the car seat. If my baby was staying home, I didn't have to switch strollers to take the other one.

Seat folds flat. This is not my second priority because it is a good tool for nap time. The real reason is for diaper changing time - which was often every time we were out and about. I've witnessed many moms change their kids on those things and I was
grossed out. I won't tell you the different scenarios because if you are
reading my blog, I am sure you know the different mishaps one goes
through when changing diapers. If it happens within the four walls of your home in a changing table, yes, it also happens in public restrooms. I took the car seat out and opened up the stroller seat whenever he needed a diaper change. I wanted to avoid changing my baby in the public bathroom as much as possible. A flat seat allowed me to change him throughout his diaper phase (still to this day, but with a different stroller).

No snack tray. When he started snacking on his own, this became a problem for me. I used to just attach those spill-proof snack bowls with the daisy links.

5-point harness for seat belt. When my baby was younger, this was an absolute must. The scare of the stroller ever tipping over, I wanted a stroller that will hold him up.

Adjustable sunshade was awesome! Although the canopy isn't too big, it adjusts!

Folds like an umbrella stroller! Easier to tow and does not take too much space. I used to be able to fold this one with one hand and a foot. I wouldn't be able to tell you how since I forgot, but I know it can be done.

Sturdy frame, but so light to carry.

The height of the handle bars is perfect. Not to low and not too high. The design is like the one in an umbrella stroller where they are just bars on each side. If they were connected, I bet the top would be high. Since you can push it holding the bars sideways, it's a perfect height for petite moms.

360 Degree Turn with a push of a finger. This glides so easily.

Roomy undercarriage.

I was bummed when I had to replace this stroller with a jogging one. Every parent I know that eventually bought this stroller (short and tall) cannot stop telling others to do the same. The best part is that many big box retailers sell this stroller. You don't have order it by phone and find out it isn't for you. You can fit it in your car and glide around the store before buying it.I just know you will fall in love with it as much as I have. Go and drive to your nearest Target or Babies R Us and try it out.

I plan to be back with how we are doing now and share some tricks and tips I learned the past months. Just a quick hello for now. I have not grown an inch vertically since I last wrote. My then baby, is now a toddler. He has great leadership skills like her sister; insert sarcastic emoji here. I also started working, so I had to bid farewell to my everyday fluffy hello kitty house slippers and polished up my heels.

So, two things to mention. I found the most perfect and budget friendly stroller for petite moms and my baby carrier is still as good as it was. I'll do a review on the stroller soon, but I have the Baby Jogger City Mini GT! This bad boy has a handle bar that adjusts! I know, I know, pretty exciting stuff!

Please stick around dear readers, followers, stalkers. I may no longer have to tow a baby around, but I am still short and these children still need me to do things for them. There are tons of adventures to be had! Big hugs! Sure the summers are shorter, but I personally love the idea that during the holidays we can go away for a month. That was exactly what we did. I imagined the scenario of me traveling with my kids. I questioned whether or not I would be able to do it. Sure, I've been on the plane more than 20 times. But with a baby? I worried about the stroller falling apart. What if I run out of diapers? Should I put him in his carseat? How can I store my luggage when I can't reach it? And the most confusing puzzler - How the heck am I going to use the restroom? You can skim through my recommendations just reading the first few sentences or chuckle at my mishaps by reading all of it, your pick.

First off, check-in your luggage. Really. Invest in a roomy and comfortable backpack and call it a day. I did the opposite. I was so paranoid that I would be stuck somewhere and run out of wipes, diapers, and milk (mind you my little chunky is breastfed). I packed extras to my extras. Extra clothes and diapers went into my backpack, while supplies of everything to include snacks and medicine went into my spinner luggage. I figured, I put the baby in the stroller, while my lovely five year old can push the luggage. I underestimated the meltdowns that came along with being jet lagged. She refused to roll the luggage because she was so tired. There I was with a hungry and cranky five year old, pushing my 7-month old in his infant seat attached to his stroller, and trying to roll the luggage. We still had a layover to conquer.

You say, all you are bringing is a backpack anyways? Great. Now what to pack? Aside from the usual baby diaper bag essentials like diapers, wipes, food, and change of clothes, I packed additional items I knew would help me during my travel.
- baby carrier
- Cares harness
- oversized toilet seat cover so your toddler and older kids do not touch the bottom of the seat when they swing their feet because my daughter almost always swings her feet.

- large disposable underpad instead of your changing pad. Why? Just in case you would need to change your baby on the ground, this is the most perfect solution. It folds flat, is lightweight, and has a waterproof liner. This liner will catch accidents as you are trying to clean up one. You fold it up and put in the trash. They sell these in drugstores or Amazon. Or the Goodnites pads from Huggies. I was fortunate enough to not have to change #2 diaper, but if I did, I would have opted to change him right there on the floor near the bathroom rather than the changer inside. My son likes to roll around as I change him. I worried about turbulence that might occur in the midst of changing him.
- plastic bag: flight attendants are not allowed to touch dirty diapers. Even if they were, more courteous. Re,e,berm they have the vodka, so be nice to them!
- Water bottle - with kids in tow, having the tray table down with a glass without a lid is just asking for trouble. At least with the water bottle, you can close the lid and put it in the seat pocket.

The answer to my crazy questions:
- Bring a stroller that you don't mind being banged up and thrown around. If it has a removable tray, remove the tray and carry that in the plane with you. We've lost a tray once and being in Paris with a fuzzy toddler who was unable to hold her cup was not a pleasant experience.
- Yes, for tiny babies, bring the car seat. The lady gave me the dirtiest look because she was unable to lean back. I would have felt bad except the seat next to her was open and she refused to move. I suggest bringing the car seat because during landing and take off, it is the safest place for a baby. They don't allow harnessing them onto you during those times and it is easy for them to slip through your hands when the altitude suddenly changes. Petites don't really have wide wing span to securely hold the baby, at least I don't.
- Bathroom breaks. I use the restroom at the last minute. If the handicap stall is not available, I park the stroller in front of my stall, tell my daughter to put her feet where I can see it, and she sings twinkle. If it is in flight, I ask the flight attendant to watch my daughter while I baby wear my infant. It's challenging because the seats are a tad bit high and I don't want any contact with it. I use my kid's oversized toilet seat cover for that.

Now you are set to go :). If this is your baby's first flight, don't forget to ask for their wings from the flight attendants. Bon Voyage!

Through experience, I found that buying a pre-arranged medicine/first aid bag is not worth it. Especially with babies, it's important to have the medicine and ointments that they're already accustomed to. The last thing you want is applying a rash cream that the baby is allergic to while traveling.

I like this compartment that I bought for my first baby years ago. It separates the dry stuff with the liquids. I wish it even tri-folds. Maybe a diy that I can make later on.
Bang it out.

With both my pregnancies, my hair fell out after giving birth. With my first, I even went to the doctor baffled why I was losing hair. Six to seven months later, baby hair galore. I am a very low maintenance girl. When I get ready, I take 10 mins tops. So, really the only solution for me is cover them with bangs, put hair up in ponytail, and bam, done.

<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Petiteandthemotherhood.blogspothttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12333748092197648776noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9170005869023879173.post-68874116838430985162013-04-03T14:47:00.001-04:002014-05-26T23:18:31.712-04:00Travel with BabiesPhew! We made it! Thank God! That was definitely challenging. I am an over-packer so yes, I pushed a carry-on full of things I thought I would need for my baby. That's in addition to the stroller, baby seat, backpack, and my kids. Of course, I didn't use anything from it.

The entire time, people were trying to lend a helping hand. My petite structure must have made carrying my baby, pushing stroller and suitcase, and coaching my 5-yr old look extremely difficult. I looked like a teen-mom for sure. One of the flight attendants asked where the dad was. Oh the joys.

But we made it! We're here! Thank you my Beco. Without you, this whole experience would have been crazy. Oh and thank you my feeding cover. And yes I like thanking inanimate objects. And to the people of New York and New Jersey, you are some of the most helpful and hospitable people I have run into.
We both have children the same ages. Our school aged kids hung out while we talked babies and life. For all the recommendations and praises I do for Beco, one must think they pay me for it. My carrier saved the day once again!

I faced him forward as we sat to eat. It was kind of odd, but it worked. I ate, he ate, we all ate. For two hours, in one inch heel boots, I carried him without sore muscles after. Well, maybe my legs, but definitely not my back nor my shoulders.

It was a bit chilly, so we sat down looking at the gorgeous view in front of us, sipping on some cappuccino... of course decaf.

<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Petiteandthemotherhood.blogspothttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12333748092197648776noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9170005869023879173.post-36749759219048546222013-03-27T01:49:00.002-04:002014-11-05T22:46:33.184-05:00Travel SuppliesI have been stocking up on some supplies in preparation for our vacation.
I decided to buy these items from Amazon, instead. True to their prime shipping, these items arrived Monday, after ordering on Friday evening. Kudos, Amazon! My list is pretty long and I wonder how I'll fit these, baby supplies and entertainment items in my carry on. I am debating as to which carry on I should bring. A spinner suitcase so my daughter can push it as I push the stroller? Or a regular suitcase that can turn into a backpack? So, I can maneuver going inside the plane much faster. What do you guys think? I am planning to wear the baby to board because leaving him in the carseat is way too heavy for me.

My thoughts on my new gear: the Beco Gemini in Foxie all over print. I was indecisive with the color and the print. I got lucky because this print is limited and was the display at the local baby boutique.

As you can see below, the Beco doesn't make me look shorter or heavier. I do feel like a kangaroo when I wear my baby, but any carrier makes me feel this way. My Gemini meets all of my needs when it comes to a baby carrier.

I tower 4 feet and 10.75 inches in height; yes, the .75 inches count when one is this short. And this is the most accurate to date since I just came from the Doc's office. The nurse was determined in getting my exact height for some reason! Finding the perfect carrier took hours of reading blogs, reviews, trials, and product returns. Due to an upcoming trip, I desperately needed to find that perfect carrier more than ever to have at least a few weeks to break it in. I needed my carrier to not cause backaches, not make me look like I'm drowning in it, and to accommodate my baby's comfort.

I've read about the Beco being fantastic for petite moms. Its construction does not make a petite mom like myself look 20 times heavier. Being so frugal, I couldn't justify the cost in the past; when there were more inexpensive options. Yes, I've tried those options. I bought two at a time in case, I mean, knowing it would eventually break.

The Gemini's price is actually most affordable when you compute the time and gas spent trying different brands. Also, if I calculate the amount of usage it will be under, the cost is more acceptable. Let's say I wear my son at least once a day for 30 minutes. $140 (with tax) divided by 365 days in a year, it equals to .38 cents per day for its cost. However in reality, I could wear him for maybe up to 2 years. Then the cost for 2 years would only be .19 cents a day. Rather than buying an inexpensive one that will break on me and I would have to replace several times, my lovely Beco is a bargain.

It is also very comfortable! Back and shoulder pains can also be expensive - very expensive! Having the right baby carrier can either mean back pains for days or minimal to none. I can wear my baby for an hour and not have back aches after. I thought I would need a couple of tries before this could be really comfortable, and wow! At first try for more than 30 minutes, my son fell asleep and my back was not sore! He didn't even sweat in it unlike the other ones I've tried that left both of us drenched in sweat! It doesn't make me look like I am wearing an armored vest, either; which most carriers I have tried made me look.

Just a quick background on me. I am clumsy. When I walk through hallways, I always find myself hitting the walls, on each side simultaneously. I trip. I fall. I am petite. This baby gear sure messed with my center of gravity at first. I found myself learning to balance with the baby in tow. After I got the hang of it, wow! I think it even helps with my posture. I find myself standing more upright than usual. So, if you wobble the first times you wear your baby, be assured that you will find your balance soon.

What's cool about the Gemini is that the baby can be worn facing forward. I haven't tried it on the baby because I know he's going to love it and I will be stuck carrying him this way. Moms are advised to limit wearing the baby facing forward for developmental reasons. However, I like the idea of being able to do this, if ever I wanted or needed to. The two other features I love are the strap elastics and safety button on the buckles. If the strap is too long, you can roll it up and tie it with the elastics at the end of the straps. The safety buttons on the buckles prevent them from being unbuckled accidentally. When I rented my Beco before purchasing it, I was taught to unbuckle the straps with two hands. As parents, we want to do things with the least hands possible. I figured out that when the straps are pulled hard, I can push the safety button first. Once the safety button is out, I can unbuckle the rest quickly.

I've read everywhere that soaking the Beco in vinegar during its very first wash will help keep its color from fading too fast and avoid lint. Many reviews have stated that their carriers faded during its first wash. I used Woolite on delicate cycle with cold water. I hung it dry away from direct sun. The carrier was exactly the same color. To limit the number of washes, they do sell drool pads that the baby can chew on.

Overall, the Beco Gemini is a wonderful gear for petite moms. I have recommended this to so many moms. Don't let the price scare you. It is worth every penny. It is so comfortable and easy to use. I wish it had a pocket of some sort to put my stuff in. I found some stores in Etsy that make drool bibs with pockets on them. I even found one that made a little purse you can hang on one of the straps. Also, maybe if the design of the print can have vertical lines, petite moms can look taller. I also think a design that has a shape of an hourglass in the middle would make post-partum moms look leaner. My bestfriend bought her Gemini from PaxBaby. She customized it with the print she wanted for an additional fee. If I don't lose the rest of the baby weight, I might just opt for my carrier to be customized with vertical lines to give the illusion of more height and leaner torso.

Do you have a suggestion on how to incorporate something to carry my keys, phone, and cards with my Beco? I don't know how to sew, but maybe you have other tricks that might work.
My Name is...Hi. You can call me Bernadette. I am petite. My mom is petite. My grandma is petite. And, there is a 90% chance that her mom, her grandma, and so on were also petite. Most of my female relatives are petite, but not very, very, very petite like me. I am super petite.

Petite is really just a fancy way to say short. No one calls me petite except for the companies who sell me clothes, but I like it. Others call me tiny, lil bit, small fry, 12 yr. old... However, to the two most important people to me, I am mom. My two wonderful children are so amazing. I feel guilty using the time I can be devoting to them to blogging, but writing is an outlet I always enjoyed in the past.

I decided to start this blog when my husband talked me into buying the "perfect" stroller. It had a large canopy, laid flat, and could fit in the small trunk of my sedan. It steered well and it had very good reviews. I loved everything about it. It was perfect. Except, the perfection stopped right on my boobs. It was not made for petites like me who are less than 5 ft. tall. The stroller handle stopped right on my chest. He suggested I could wear heels. I toyed with the idea a bit because this stroller was amazing and on clearance. Then I realized it was the crazy 36-week pregnant lady talking. I ccould not even walk straight without tripping on myself wearing flats, imagine with heels? He said I would have the stroller to lean on! I was sad to bring it back to the store. Okay, it was the Baby Jogger City Micro from Target.

That was when I realized, my height made a difference when it came down to caring for my children. With my first child, my husband was always around and I did not need to have the right gear to do anything. He carried her everywhere or we had our trusty umbrella stroller we bought at Babies R Us for $9.99 if we needed it. This time around, I am on my own during the first year of our son's life with a five-year old that seems to know everything. With sore arms and puffy eyes, I am on a quest to making all of our lives happier and simpler. I hope to share my experiences with you!

This is how this blog begins. I have written blogs as diaries before, so adding an informative twist is very new to me. I hope to share what products and tricks work best for me as a petite mom. Enjoy and laugh at my mishaps and learn from them.

I would like to know the kinds of Google searches you've done in hopes to find reviews strictly related to being a petite parent.
